One of my new year resolutions for 2025 was to simply feel brighter in the mornings and set my day up for being more productive. That's why I devised the perfect morning routine for school/college days!

I'd like to mention that this morning routine is designed to be changed and adapted to your specific needs. This includes the timings of when you might wake up and leave for school. You could also adjust how many minutes each part of the routine takes you. This routine takes place in consecutive 15 minute periods, and in mine I wake up at 6:00.
6:00 - 6:15 : Wake up, Stretch
You can't start a morning routine without waking up of course. The first thing I do to help me feel productive and less tired is not hitting snooze on my alarm. I find that easier if I set it up across my room, forcing me to get out of bed to turn it off. Instantly, you should make your bed - surprisingly the act of making your bed is incredible for your mental health (and gives me a sense of achievement!). Then, I get my body moving by doing a 10 minute stretching routine. I also go to the toilet in this time frame and quickly splash my face with water.
I know it's tempting to go on your phone straight after you wake up - but not only will this make you more tired and feel less productive - it has scientific effects. Your sleep has a pattern, your brain begins in delta waves, during the deep sleep state. You then enter theta waves during a daydreamy state before going to the alpha stage (being awake but not processing much detailed information). However - if you immediately go on your phone - you will go straight from delta waves to the beta stage (where you are alert). Skipping these stages allow your brain to be distracted, and seeing something unsettling straight away can make you feel anxious for the rest of the day.

6:15 - 6:30 : Breakfast
It's the most important meal of the day, although admittedly my least favourite. Breakfast is needed to help brain function - including memory and focus. It also helps start your metabolism in the morning. I try and eat healthily in the morning but I also make sure I actually enjoy what I'm eating - otherwise I'm not helping myself. I will also take any medication and supplements during this time.
6:30 - 6:45: Brush teeth, skin care, get dressed
Then I begin my bathroom routine by cleaning my teeth, doing my skin care, and any other little things that I would do in the bathroom. I'd pick out an outfit for myself and get dressed. Personally, I find it easier to pick out an outfit the day before in order to save time, (and my procrastination). Obviously this part wouldn't be a problem if you have a uniform for school.

6:45 - 7:00: Hair and Makeup
Personally my favourite part of the routine, this 15 minutes will be devoted to doing your makeup for the day (if you choose to do so!) and styling your hair. I often feel much more relaxed during this part of my routine and tend to listen to music. Since there is only 15 minutes to do this part of the routine - I recommend either doing simple hair and makeup, or choosing styles you already know how to do. Prepare in advance if you have a specific style you would like to do that may take you a little longer, you can always add time by taking away from the "Catch up" part of the routine later on.
7:00 - 7:15: Preparation
This part of the routine is dedicated to getting all of your things ready for the day ahead of you! I advise that you pack your bag the night before, since it means you won't be rushing around in case you can't find anything. Instead you should just be making sure you have everything and grab other stuff like shoes etc. It is also a good time to make your lunch if needed.

7:15 - 7:30: Relax, Catch up
I always prefer to have a bit of down time before leaving for school/college. Without it I feel as though I'm rushing around in time to leave the house. You can do whatever you want in this time period, whether that be reading, watching TV, or even just going on your phone. In case you run over the 15 minute period during another part of the routine, this is a great opportunity to take minutes from this period and add it on to the end of the other. Of course you will have less time to relax!
7:30: Leave for school/college
To end the morning routine, you need to leave for school! I'll mention again that this routine is designed for you to adjust for yourself. I need to leave at 7:30 in order to catch my bus at 7:52. However if you need to leave earlier, then you can either get up earlier, or skip parts of the routine, or shorten the time frame. Or if you'd like to leave at a later time you can get up later!

Thank you so much for reading my blog on how to have an IT girl school morning routine! I hope you find it useful in feeling more productive for the day ahead.
